I'm looking forward to multiple perspectives, there is enough in these books that I'm sure different people will notice different things.

Re: Gardens of the Moon Re-Read – Pale: Chapter 1 (part 2)

it was an ok book not as good as midnight tides

Re: Gardens of the Moon – pre-reread thoughts

Thanks for commenting (next one will be up soon). For me the series has become my reading obsession, something that transcends the hobby of reading and becomes a hobby in itself. Certainly it's not alone in that regard, but it is my current dig. As an adult it's fun to be able to have series that not only gave me that feeling I got as a kid reading several of the '80s books, but does so for my adult mind. It's not a nostalgia trip that I love as much as it's me scouting what will be a nostalgia trip 10, 15, or 20 yards down the road.

Re: Gardens of the Moon – pre-reread thoughts

Wow, what an intro! Great stuff about Gardens and Malazan as a whole being epic, as opposed to simply being epic fantasy, as in the whole "well, I rarely read epic fantasies these days because..." that seems to be a popular thought around various SF/F venues.

Have to say I agree with your general feelings. Yes, Erikson has his flaws, and yes, from some angles he is writing "D&D on crack or steroids" (or as I like to think of it, D&D literature if it had been allowed to develop into exactly that: literature), but all I know is that seven books in and I see Erikson remaining as one of the fantasy writers I'll still be reading long after I've given up any interest in actively keeping an eye on the fantasy scene.

Cool project you have going, Jay. I'll be watching it develop with interest.

- Zach

Re: Gardens of the Moon Re-Read – Pale: Chapter 1 (part 1)

ah, okay, thanks for the update.

Re: Gardens of the Moon Re-Read – Pale: Chapter 1 (part 1)

I use bloglines. I just resubbed and again every time I refresh my feeds it says 4 posts but it's empty. It could be a bloglines thing but all the others work fine.

Re: Gardens of the Moon Re-Read – Pale: Chapter 1 (part 1)

Weird.
